                   Market Purchase of Company's Own Shares




Notification is given that pursuant to the authority granted at an Annual
General Meeting on 9 April 2001 to make market purchases of the Company's own
shares of 5p, a market purchase of 150,000 ordinary shares of 5p each in the
capital of the Company was made yesterday at a price of 64 per share.


Following the purchase and cancellation, 205,140,359 ordinary shares of 5p
will be in issue.
