Two New Senior Appointments to Drive Science in New Product Innovation and Development
Dr. Robert Child is appointed Chief Scientific Officer and Dr James Morton is appointed World Class Knowledge Director
Science in Sport plc (AIM: SIS), a leading sports nutrition company that develops, manufactures and markets sports nutrition products for professional athletes and sports enthusiasts, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Robert Child as Chief Scientific Officer and Dr James Morton as World Class Knowledge Director, with effect from 1 September 2016.
The joint appointments further bolster SiS' leadership team and its science based credentials as the Company continues with its progressive growth strategy, focused on new product development and international expansion, as well as highlighting that the Company continues to attract the very best experts and talent in the industry.
Dr Robert Child has been appointed as the Group's new Chief Scientific Officer, bringing extensive sports nutrition and biochemical expertise to the management team at Science in Sport. Robert is currently a Performance Biochemist at Team Katusha, a leading World Tour professional cycling team, where he applies performance biochemistry to improve rider health, recovery and performance. Previous to this he was Head of Nutrition for professional cycling teams MTN-Qhubeka, Geox-TMC and Cervelo Test Team; he was also Head of Research at Maximuscle Limited from 2003 to 2011 where he developed a number of innovative, science based supplements, helping establish Maximuscle as a commercially successful brand, before its sale to GlaxoSmithKline.
In addition to this, Robert has a PhD in Exercise Physiology & Biochemistry and has carried out post-doctoral research at the Department of Medicine, Liverpool University and University College Chichester, specialising in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition & Cellular Signalling, and Exercise Biochemistry & Nutrition. He has also published numerous papers in leading physiology, clinical and sports medicine journals and holds degrees in Sports Science, Adapted Physical Activity and performed research on muscle damage and adaptation to gain a doctorate.
The Company has also appointed Dr James Morton, formerly a scientific advisor to SIS, to the role of World Class Knowledge Director, supporting development of new IP, processes, technologies, capabilities and marketing of SIS products. James is a distinguished sports nutrition consultant with many years' experience. Most recently he has been Head of Performance Nutrition to Team Sky, the leading British World Tour cycling team, contributing to their continued outstanding success. James has worked extensively with professional athletes and sports teams to produce and deliver best in class nutrition plans. He has worked as a nutrition consultant for a number of high-profile sport associations, namely The Football Association, Liverpool Football Club as well as Team Sky.
In addition, James is a Reader in Exercise Metabolism at Liverpool John Moores University where he co-leads one of the world's leading Sport Nutrition Research groups. To date, he has published over 90 research papers and numerous book chapters/books focussing on Sport Nutrition, Sport Physiology and Strength and Conditioning.
