Repurchase of Ordinary Shares to Cancellation

The Scottish American Investment Company PLC announces that on
9th May 2000 it purchased for cancellation  80,000 ordinary
shares in the market at a price of 254p per ordinary share.
There remain 160,475,943 ordinary shares in issue.
