Appointment of Director

The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Patrick Maxwell as a non executive director of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC.

Professor Patrick Maxwell is Regius Professor of Physic and Head of the School of Clinical Medicine at Cambridge University. Professor Maxwell has extensive knowledge and experience of the biotechnology sector and holds a Wellcome Trust senior investigator award for his research on oxygen sensing.  He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2005 and chairs the Medical Research Council's Molecular and Cellular Medicine Board. He is currently a director of the Global Medical Excellence Cluster (GMEC) and a member of the boards of Cambridge University Health Partners (CUHP) and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Chairman of Scottish Mortgage, Mr John Scott said: "Professor Maxwell's deep knowledge in many fields of medical science will be of great value to Scottish Mortgage, particularly at a time when the developing field of genomics is of increasing importance to investors. The Board very much looks forward to working with Patrick and I have no doubt that he will make a significant contribution to the future of Scottish Mortgage."

As at 10 March 2016, Professor Maxwell held 7,280 shares in Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC.

The appointment of Professor Maxwell will take effect from 1 April 2016 and falls to be ratified by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting of the Company to be held in 2016.

There is no further information required to be disclosed under Listing Rule 9.6.13.
