Change in Investment Management Arrangements
First State Stewart is pleased to announce that Hee Wee Li will be returning from maternity leave in May, and will reassume her position as co-manager of Scottish Oriental as from July 1 2014. In this role, she will have primary responsibility for stock selection. Angus Tulloch will remain co-manager of the Trust. Martin Lau will step down from a direct portfolio management role with Scottish Oriental but, along with the wider First State Stewart team, will continue to generate investment ideas for consideration by its portfolio management team. Tom Allen remains deputy manager of the Trust.
The Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust, a London stock exchange listed investment trust, was established in 1995 by Edinburgh based Stewart Ivory (predecessor firm of First State Investments) to invest in Asian smaller companies. Angus Tulloch managed the fund from inception until 2000, when he handed over the lead manager role to Susie Rippingall, who retired in April 2013. It was intended that Wee Li would replace Susie as the Trust's principal stock selector at that time but, maternity leave intervening, Angus reassumed responsibility for the Trust supported by Martin, Tom and the First State Stewart Investment team. Wee Li's return allows us to revert to our original plan for her to succeed Susie in this role.
