THE SCOTTISH ORIENTAL SMALLER COMPANIES TRUST PLC

First State Investment Management (UK) Limited, Secretary to The Scottish
Oriental Smaller Companies Trust Plc, announces that 746,999 new Ordinary shares
of 25p each were allotted on 2nd February 2006 as a result of the exercise of
746,999 of The Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust Plc warrants. The total
issued capital has therefore increased to 26,235,601 Ordinary shares and the
warrants in issue have reduced to 3,978,049.

Dealings in the 746,999 new shares are expected to commence on 13th February
2006.
