TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

On 7 October 2016 Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc (the "Company") purchased 10,000 ordinary shares of 25p to be held in Treasury at a price of 951.00p per share.

The Company's issued share capital consists of 31,413,663 ordinary shares, of which 403,500 ordinary shares are held in Treasury.  Therefore, the total number of shares with voting rights in Scottish Oriental Smaller Companies Trust plc is 31,010,163.

The above figure (31,010,163) may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the Company under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
