SCIENTIFIC DIGITAL IMAGING PLC
("SDI" or "The Group")
Renowned research institutions using Syncroscopy's Auto-Montage Pro to produce a classification guide of some of the world's most unusual ant species
SDI, the AIM quoted group focused on the needs of the scientific community, is pleased to update the market regarding recent developments at Syncroscopy, a core division of SDI's principal subsidiary Synoptics Ltd. ("Synoptics"), a developer and manufacturer of innovative scientific instruments and systems that exploit digital imaging technology for a range of disciplines.
Highlights
· Syncroscopy's Auto-Montage Pro, 3D imaging reconstructive software, is being used for the first time by Punjabi University Patiala, to produce a classification guide of some of the world's most unusual ant species;
· The California Academy of Sciences, will also be using Auto-Montage Pro to document its 'Antweb' project, which aims to produce images of 95% of all known ant species;
Syncroscopy, a world leader in unique digital imaging solutions for microscopy, announces that its Auto-Montage Pro, 3D imaging reconstructive software, is being used for the first time in India at the respected Punjabi University Patiala, to produce a classification guide of some of the world's most unusual ant species.
Researchers in the Department of Zoology at Punjabi University Patiala are using a Nikon 1500 microscope and Auto-Montage Pro software to produce in-focus 3D images of ants from around India and the Himalayas. Using Auto-Montage Pro, the scientists have generated thousands of images of around 100 different ant species, many of which have never been properly identified and classified before.
In addition, The California Academy of Sciences, led by Brian L Fisher, will produce images of a total of 8,000 ant specimens in five years from major ant collections around the world. Building on the foundation of AntWeb.org which currently hosts images of more than 5,000 ant species, this will equate to 95% of all known ant species.
Commenting on the progress SDI's Chairman, Harry Tee, said:
"For such well respected research institutions to be using Auto-Montage Pro is a great endorsement for our product and so far the resulting images have been truly breathtaking. We are proud to be able to assist with such valuable research and we look forward to continuing our relationship with all institutions involved."

Note to Editors
Scientific Digital Imaging plc
SDI plc is focused on the application of digital imaging technology to the needs of the scientific community.
The principal subsidiary is Synoptics, which designs and manufactures special-purpose instruments for use in the life sciences. In October 2008 SDI acquired the entire share capital of Artemis and Perseu, companies (now known as "Atik") that design and manufacture high-sensitivity cameras for both astronomical and life sciences applications and whose products are used in instruments manufactured by Synoptics.
SDI, through its subsidiaries, offers a range of digital imaging solutions and intends to acquire other companies that are capable of contributing one or more key elements to the solutions required including an in-depth understanding of the applications in the marketplace, the ability to engineer complete systems to address such applications and the provision of key, high-performance components such as cameras.www.scientificdigitalimaging.com
