Acquisition

Sondex PLC 04 November 2004 Sondex plc Sondex acquires rights to well test production technology Sondex plc, the British oilfield technology company, has acquired the patents and technology associated with a novel well test production logging (WTPL) methodology for €300,000. The agreement has been made with Geo Energy s.a, a French research organisation that has pioneered the development to date of this important new technique. Sondex has agreed to take over the entire responsibility for this project with the intention of accelerating the commercial release of the technology. Well test production logging allows an assessment of the production capability of an oil or gas reservoir to be made from within a producing well without interrupting production or deploying costly equipment. This will enable an operator to assess in a cost effective manner the current and future oil reserves in maturing oil and gas fields. Sondex will design and develop variations to its existing production logging tools to perform the well testing. A major oil service company and a leading international energy group have been sponsoring the development of the technology and it is anticipated that they will continue their association with continuing development work. It is expected that these two companies will also be involved with future field trials and commercialisation. Martin Perry, Chief Executive of Sondex commented: "We are very excited by this development, as the technology can be regarded as potentially game-changing. We look forward to bringing this technology to commercialisation." 4 November 2004 For further information, please contact: Sondex Tel: 0118 932 6755 Martin Perry (Chief Executive) Anika Ephraim aephraim@sondex.com College Hill Tel: 020 7457 2020 Nick Elwes Ben Brewerton RMD Communications Tel: +44 (0) 1892 723173 Ray Dafter rmdcoms@aol.com +44 (0) 7770 747539 Notes to Editors WTLP The technique involves introducing small, cyclical modulations of pressure within the flowing oil or gas well. The resultant phase and amplitude changes in flow rates are recorded over a range of frequencies at the point where the fluids enter the well. Analysis of these readings gives an indication of the 'skin' effect (flow restriction due to the blocking of pores in the zone close to the wellbore) and of the permeability ('producibility') of the reservoir or zone of production under investigation. The analysis can be used to prescribe appropriate actions in order to optimise the recovery of remaining oil and gas reserves. Sondex plc This acquisition represents a further step by Sondex in the broadening of its existing product range. Sondex recently completed the £31.5 million acquisition of Geolink International, the Scotland-based specialist designer, manufacturer and supplier of Measurement While Drilling (MWD) and Logging While Drilling (LWD) downhole technology. This followed the acquisition in December of Computer Sonics Systems Inc ("CSS"), a designer and manufacturer of wireline logging equipment based in Calgary, Canada. Sondex now has operations in the UK, Russia, USA, Canada, South America, China, the Middle East and Australia. In addition to the "at bit" drilling sensors, its suite of sophisticated tools includes specialist logging equipment, casing inspection systems for economically extending the life of wells, data-acquisition systems, electric cutters, and electric tractors for the deployment of downhole logging tools in highly deviated and horizontal wells. The electro-mechanical equipment is generally used by international and regional oilfield service companies on behalf of virtually every major oil and gas company.
