SEEING MACHINES RELEASES NEW PRODUCT - DRIVER STATE SENSOR RESEARCH (DSS-R)
Seeing Machines (AIM: SEE), the leading developer of advanced computer based
imaging software systems, announces today the first production release of its
Driver State Sensor (DSS) technology in the DSS-R, as highlighted in the 19
October 2006 announcement of Final Results for the year ended 30 June 2006. The
DSS-R is a research and fleet trial implementation of the DSS and its rugged
design and fully automatic operation makes it ideally suited for permanent and
unsupervised installation in vehicles. The technology has been trialled
successfully in the US since March when it was installed in a number of trucks
for a large oil field services and mining company. The second phase of this
trial has recently commenced and includes a larger number of trucks.
In releasing the product Nick Cerneaz, CEO of Seeing Machines said: 'This DSS-R
product is the first of a number of new products we are aiming to release over
the next 12 months. The DSS technology underpinning the DSS-R has been
developed and refined by Seeing Machines over a number of years most recently in
collaboration with our partners Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (Hella). We are very
excited by the strong interest in this automotive product and its potential to
add to our revenue base.
It is well known that driver fatigue, distraction and inattention are
significant factors in road traffic accidents. The World Health Organisation
(WHO) estimates that 1.2 million people lose their lives and 50 million people
are injured in road traffic accidents each year. The global cost of road
traffic accidents is estimated at US$518 billion annually.
Vehicles using the Seeing Machines DSS technology will be 'driver aware'. The
DSS-R will enable fleet operators and others researching driver performance and
safety systems to test-drive tomorrow's technology today. Seeing Machines
continues to work with its automotive industry partners to bring the DSS
technology to serial production as an Original Equipment Manufacturers product
(DSS-O) from vehicle manufacturers or as an after market system (DSS-A) suitable
for retrofitting existing vehicles.'
