Scott Wilson Group plc
Scott Wilson Appointed by Balfour Beatty / Carillion Joint Venture
For the East London Line
Scott Wilson Group plc ("Scott Wilson"), the international consultancy offering
integrated professional services in the transportation, property, environmental
and natural resources sectors, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a
contract with a Balfour Beatty / Carillion Joint Venture to provide
multi-disciplinary design services for the East London Line ("ELL") project, a
TFL project to upgrade and extend the line to the north and the south of its
current route.
The value of the contract to Scott Wilson is expected to be up to £14 million
over the duration of the project. The major part of this relates to design
services during 2007 and 2008, with some technical support being provided to the
testing and commissioning process in 2009.
Scott Wilson is supporting the Balfour Beatty-Carillion Joint Venture, which has
been awarded the contract for Phase One of the ELL project, and is a key part of
the transport strategy for the 2012 Olympics. The contract was awarded by TFL to
the Joint Venture on 20 October 2006 and the Joint Venture instructed Scott
Wilson to mobilise its team and to commence the design shortly afterwards.
Phase One of the project will extend the existing East London Line northwards to
Dalston Junction via a new route which formerly supported the North London Line
to Broad Street and will include the construction of new stations at Hoxton,
Haggerston, Dalston Junction and Shoreditch High Street. To the south, the line
will be extended from the existing station at New Cross Gate onto the National
Rail network, providing an all station service to Crystal Palace and West
Croydon. It is intended that the line will run heavy rail Electrostar trains at
Tube frequency. Phase Two, which does not form part of this contract, will
ultimately extend the line west to Clapham Junction to facilitate orbital
journeys around London and further northwards to connect into the existing North
London Line. More information on the ELL can be found at www.tfl.gov.uk.
Commenting on today's announcement, Geoff French, Chairman of Scott Wilson,
said:
"This marks the third significant major railway project announced since Scott
Wilson's stock market listing on 15 March 2006, following the announcement of
the Crossrail and Edinburgh Airport Rail Link contract wins in March and May,
respectively.
"We are delighted to have secured this role, which confirms our leading position
in major multi-disciplinary railway projects worldwide and cements our strong
presence in the London rail market. We look forward to working with TFL and the
Balfour Beatty - Carillion Joint Venture, to deliver the project successfully."
