ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
TRADING STATEMENT
Monday 30th April 2001
At SIG's Annual General Meeting held today, Chief Executive Bill Forrester,
made the following comments about trading:
'The Group has traded well in the first quarter of 2001.
'In the UK, sales and operating profits have been encouraging in all our main
activities and compare favourably with the first quarter of last year.
'In Europe, excellent performances have been achieved in France and the
Netherlands. Results have been satisfactory in Germany where, as predicted,
the trading environment has remained difficult.
'Our US business has continued to build on the recovery made in 2000.
'The Board remains confident that further progress will be made in the current
year.'
