SIG BOARD APPOINTMENTS
15th June 2001
SIG plc, Europe's largest specialist distributor of insulation, ceilings and
partitioning and roofing products, announces that David Williams has been
appointed Deputy Chief Executive with effect from 1 July 2001. He will become
Group Chief Executive following the retirement of Bill Forrester, the present
Group Chief Executive, on 31 December 2001.
David Williams is currently Managing Director of SIG's largest subsidiary,
Sheffield Insulations (SIL), and for the past year has also been responsible
for SIG's overseas operations. He has been with SIG for 18 years firstly as
sales and marketing director of SIL, becoming managing director of that
subsidiary in 1993 and was appointed to the SIG Group Board in 1993.
Barrie Cottingham, Chairman of SIG, commented: 'Bill Forrester joined SIG in
1981 and has since stewarded successfully the transition from a small private
company to an international plc with sales of around £1 billion and market
leading positions in the UK, Germany, France, the US, Poland and Holland. Bill
has led the Group with vision and energy and, in addition to significant
growth in sales and in the scope of our activities, has also produced
excellent compound earnings per share growth since flotation in 1989. David
Williams will take over with the Group well positioned for further progress
and future growth.'
Bill Forrester, Group Chief Executive of SIG, added: 'David Williams has
played a major role in the success of the business and I have total confidence
that he will take SIG forward to its next stage of development.'
SIG also announces that Mr Peter Blackburn, current Chairman of Nestle UK, and
Mr Nick Paul, recently retired Deputy Chief Executive of IMI, will join the
Board as non-executive directors on 1st July this year.
Sir Timothy Kitson and Mr Jim Potter, who have been non-executive directors
for 6 years and 5 years, respectively, will retire on 30th September 2001.
Barrie Cottingham commented: 'Sir Timothy Kitson and Jim Potter have added
considerably to the quality of debate within the Board and contributed to the
development of the Group. I thank them for this contribution.'

Peter Blackburn
Peter Blackburn (60) has been Chairman and Chief Executive of Nestle UK since
January 1998. He was previously Chairman and Chief Executive of Nestle,
France.
Nick Paul
Nick Paul (56) recently retired from IMI plc, the engineering company, where
he was Deputy Chief Executive. He joined IMI in 1977. He is currently a
Non-Executive Director of John Laing Plc, a position he has held since 1999.
David Williams
David Williams (50) has extensive experience of running businesses in the UK
and overseas. Before joining SIG in 1983, he worked in engineering and metal
manufacturing industries. He has been closely involved with the successful
growth strategy of SIG and has been responsible for the integration and
development of many of the acquisitions made by SIG. He has experience of all
the markets in which the Group operates and, prior to this appointment, the
companies under his control form over 60% of Group activities.
