APPOINTMENT OF SENIOR INDEPENDENT DIRECTOR

SIG plc, Europe's leading supplier of insulation, roofing and commercial
interiors products, is pleased to announce the appointment of existing
non-executive director Peter Blackburn to the position of senior independent
director with immediate effect.

Peter Blackburn replaces Les Tench as senior independent director. Les Tench
became chairman at the AGM on 30 April 2004. Peter Blackburn was appointed to
the Board on 1 July 2001 and is also chairman of the remuneration committee.

David Williams, group chief executive, commented:

'We are delighted that Peter Blackburn has accepted this important role. He has
significant experience and expertise and has made an important contribution to
the Board since his appointment three years ago. We look forward to his

Peter Blackburn, CBE

Peter Blackburn (age 63) is non-executive chairman of Northern Foods plc and a
non-executive director of Compass Group PLC. From November 1997 to June 2001 he
was chairman and chief executive of Nestle UK. He is a past president of the
Food and Drink Federation.
