ADVANCED SMARTCARD TECHNOLOGIES PLC ANNOUNCES
FURTHER SMARTCARD SALES TO ITSO
Advanced Smartcard Technologies plc (RIC: SMRT/L, the "Company"), the Scottish
based software group specialising in smartcard technology, through its wholly
owned subsidiary Ecebs Limited ("Ecebs"), is delighted to announce that it has
received an order from ITSO Limited ("ITSO") for 20,000 ITSO Secure Application
Modules ("ISAM").
ITSO is a strategic initiative supported by the major bus and rail transport
organisations in the UK and the UK Government to provide interoperable smartcard
based ticketing which is also compliant with international open standards.
The ISAM is a key component of all ITSO schemes and sits in all terminals in an
ITSO smartcard system and provides the means by which smartcards issued by a
variety of transport operators are read and verified.
ITSO have placed this order to create a buffer stock for the ITSO market in the
anticipation of increased deployment of ITSO compliant ticketing schemes over
the next few years. These devices will become available for sale to ITSO scheme
operators during 2008. This revenue to the Company has already been included in
the current market projections.
David Braddock, Chief Executive of Advanced Smartcard Technologies plc
commented: "We are extremely pleased to receive this order and to continue the
close relationship we have developed with ITSO over the years. This order
clearly demonstrates the determination that exists to drive forward the success
of ITSO."
Mike Eastham, ITSO General Manager stated: "The amount of activity in our market
has increased dramatically during the past few months. ITSO Smartcard Schemes
are starting up and expanding all over England, Wales and Scotland and the
potential arrival of enhanced concessionary travel schemes will drive demand
still further. This provision of a good level of ISAM stock will assist the
smooth roll-out of ITSO schemes.
