DS SMITH PLC NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR APPOINTMENT

DS Smith Plc, the international packaging manufacturer and office products wholesaler, announces the following appointment to the Board with effect from 1 December 2009.

Jonathan Nicholls

Jonathan Nicholls will join the Board of DS Smith Plc as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 December 2009. Jonathan, aged 51, has considerable Board level experience, particularly in financial roles. Most recently he was Group Finance Director of Old Mutual Plc and prior to that was Group Finance Director of Hanson Plc. Previously he was a Non-Executive Director of Man Group Plc.  

As required by the Listing Rules, it is confirmed that there are no details to be disclosed pursuant to LR 9.6.13 R (1) to (6). Mr Nicholls does not currently hold any shares in the Company.
