SMITH & NEPHEW PRE-CLOSE BRIEFING DATE


Smith & Nephew, the global medical devices company, will be holding its normal
briefing of financial analysts to provide an update ahead of the close period
preceding the Preliminary Results announcement on 6 February 2003.
