SMITHS DETECTION MANAGEMENT CHANGE

Smiths Group plc today announces that Mal Maginnis, President of Smiths Detection, has decided to step down for personal reasons so that he can relocate back to Singapore and pursue other interests.  He will be leaving the Group after a suitable transition period.  The process to appoint a permanent replacement is underway.

In the interim, the divisional management will report to Brian Jones, currently Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Smiths Group and a member of the Group Executive Committee.  Brian, who will look after the day-to-day running of Smiths Detection, has served on the Detection Board for five years as Investor Director and has a good knowledge of the division, its markets, products and current operational initiatives.  Stuart Beesley will become interim CIO and attend the Executive Committee, reporting to the Chief Executive.  Both appointments are effective immediately.

Chief Executive Philip Bowman said "I would like to thank Mal for his valuable contribution to Smiths Detection over the past 12 years.  I wish him well in the next steps he takes in his career."

In the first two months of the financial year, Smiths Detection has traded in line with expectations, with revenue and headline operating profit ahead of last year.  A trading update for the Group will be issued on 19 November at the Annual General Meeting.
