Sopheon Partners with Siemens Business Services to Deliver
Compliance Support to Siemens Units Worldwide
Sopheon Software Powers New Compliance Direct Service that Automatically
Provides Engineers with Essential Information on Standards and Regulations
MINNEAPOLIS and LONDON-July 30, 2003-Sopheon, the international software and
services company, today announced an agreement with Siemens Business Services'
Standardization Competence Center under which the Siemens subsidiary will resell
Sopheon's Compliance Monitor software solution to approximately 1,400 Siemens
units operating in more than 190 countries worldwide. The Sopheon software
powers Siemens' new Compliance Direct Service. The service ensures that Siemens
engineers and other professionals have timely, structured and intelligent access
to a broad range of sources containing internal and external standards,
regulations and related information that have the potential to affect their
business operations.
Nearly all companies are faced with the challenge of complying with an expanding
number of ever-changing federal, state and local regulatory directives, legal
requirements and industry technical standards. Examples range from civil,
safety and environmental regulations to chemical, mechanical and engineering
standards. Some industries, including many that coincide with Siemens' key
business segments in communications, lighting, medical, transportation, finance
and real estate, have demanding regulatory and standards requirements.
Compliance becomes more complicated as organizations grow in size or geographic
reach and as regulations grow in scope and duration. Noncompliance not only can
have severe legal and financial consequences, it can also result in the loss of
important business opportunities. Engineers and other professionals bear the
responsibility for staying abreast of compliance and conformity requirements in
their areas of responsibility, but many have neither the time nor the tools
needed to acquire or process this critical information effectively.
Siemens Compliance Direct Service is built around Sopheon's Compliance Monitor
solution which features an advanced linguistic text-comparison search engine, or
'reading robot,' that monitors professional journals, news publications,
websites, internal libraries and other sources arranged by Siemens Business
Services' Standardization Competence Center. The Sopheon solution uses
technology to automatically handle tens of thousands of documents and related
messages. It filters and analyzes the conceptual content from the user's
documents, generates an interest profile, and alerts the user when it discovers
information or developments related to pertinent standards and regulations.
Relevant data is then stored in the user's personal knowledge base for immediate
recall. Siemens Business Services' Standardization Competence Center is
offering the Compliance Direct Service on a per-user, annual subscription basis
to Siemens' global community of about 77,000 engineers and professionals in
product development, sales, marketing, manufacturing and other areas. It is
also being offered to Siemens' clients and prospects.
'Meeting the growing challenge of standardization, standards and regulatory
compliance is vital for business success in increasingly global markets,' said
Norbert Zimmermann, manager of Siemens Business Services' Standardization
Competence Center. 'We have made it a priority to empower our workforce with
tools that allow them to stay current with the latest standards and regulatory
information not only to minimize the risks of noncompliance but to maximize our
ability to take advantage of new market opportunities. Founded on Sopheon's
unique Compliance Monitor technology, Compliance Direct Service will
automatically deliver timely and relevant information directly to our knowledge
workers and enable them to achieve these objectives.'
'Siemens selection of Sopheon's Compliance Monitor solution to help address one
of the most challenging and important issues facing today's global businesses is
an emphatic acknowledgement of the technical and business advantages of our
software,' said Andy Michuda, chief executive officer of Sopheon. 'Just as our
Accolade system supports business accountability for product development
processes across functional areas, our Compliance Monitor provides an advanced
and intelligently automated process for supporting compliance initiatives across
an enterprise. These capabilities offer important, potential value to any
organization interested in building a reliable, scalable foundation for
effective product lifecycle and compliance management.'
