                     SPECTRIS PLC ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF
                             GROUP FINANCE DIRECTOR


Spectris plc, the precision instrumentation and controls company, announces the
appointment of Clive Watson as Group Finance Director. He will take up the
position on 1 October 2006 when he will also become a member of the Spectris
Board.

Clive joins Spectris from Borealis where he served as Chief Financial Officer
and Executive Vice President for Business Support since 2001. Borealis is a
leading provider of plastics solutions with an annual turnover of around €5
billion. Prior to joining Borealis, Clive held the position of Group Finance
Director at Thorn Lighting Ltd. Before Thorn Lighting, Clive worked for 11 years
at The Black & Decker Corporation in a variety of finance roles, most recently
as Group Finance Director Europe. Clive started his working career with Arthur
Andersen & Co where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and as a member of
the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Clive holds a Bachelors degree in Commerce & Accounting from the University of
Birmingham.
