Close Period Share Repurchases

Pursuant to Listing Rule 12.2.1(2), Spectris plc has entered into an arrangement
to enable the repurchase of its own shares into treasury during its close
period, which will end with the publication of its interim results on 24 August
2007. Any acquisitions will be effected within certain pre-set parameters, and
in accordance with both the Company's general authority to repurchase shares and
the Listing Rules. The arrangement may only be revoked by the Company under
certain limited circumstances.
