Spectris plc: Transaction in own shares

Spectris plc announces that on 14 March 2007 it purchased 150,000 of its 5p
ordinary shares at a volume weighted average price paid per share of 848.390p.

The highest price paid per share was 850p, and the lowest price paid was 841p.

The shares purchased will be held as treasury shares. Following the above
purchase, Spectris plc holds 350,000 shares in treasury.

The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares) is
124,644,993.
