    Completion of the Acquisition of Jewson Limited's Stand-alone Tool and
                 Equipment Hire Operations  ('Hire Branches')

Further to its announcement of 2nd January 2002, the Board of Speedy Hire is
pleased to announce that on Friday 4th January 2002 it completed the
acquisition of the Hire Branches.  The acquired branches will be fully
integrated into Speedy Hire's existing network.

David Wallis, the Chairman of Speedy Hire commented:

'The acquisition of Jewson's stand-alone hire operations is in line with
Speedy Hire's strategy of being a significant player in its chosen markets and
expands our network to over 250 branches throughout the UK.  The transaction
improves our coverage in the South West and substantially increases our market
share in London and the South East.'
