         DAVID WALLIS APPOINTED NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Allen  Plc,  the  construction services group,  has  appointed
David Wallis as a Non-Executive Director.

David Wallis, age 52, was formerly Group Managing Director  of
Merchant Retail Group plc. which he transformed from  a  small
supermarket  Group into a highly successful retailer  spanning
department  stores and specialist perfumery  outlets.   He  is
currently  a Non-Executive Director of Geest PLC and  Chairman
of three venture capital backed companies.

Donald Greenhalgh, the Chairman of Allen, commented:

'I  am  delighted  to welcome David Wallis as a  Non-Executive
Director.   This  appointment reflects the  changes  that  are
taking  place in the structure of the Group as we continue  to
focus on developing our service related activities.'
