                       RYAN CONTRACTUAL ISSUE RESOLVED



Allen announces that Ryan, its utility services business, has now reached a
satisfactory agreement with its major customer on the contractual issue
referred to in the preliminary statement.


As announced at the time the preliminary results on 27 June 2001, the board
will now review its options for the sale of Ryan.
