Purchase of own Securities

As part of its share repurchase programme, Spirax-Sarco Engineering Plc
announces that, on 21 and 22 September 1999, it purchased for cancellation
55,000 and 50,000 ordinary shares respectively from Merrill Lynch
International at a price of 593 pence per share.
