TETRA handset receives approval
The Directors of Software Radio Technology plc ("SRT" or the "Company"), the
AIM-quoted provider of digital wireless communications technology and product
solutions, are pleased to announce that its new TETRA handset has received its
first formal infrastructure interoperability approval.
The approval granted relates to the formal testing and approval which are
required from the manufacturers of TETRA networks to prove interoperability. The
process is operated by an independent organisation and verifies that the product
is able to operate on a given network infrastructure.
At this time, the handset is undergoing a series of multiple formal approvals
and its first pre-production run with our chosen contract manufacturer,
Flextronics Inc. Production is expected to commence during the second half of
this year.
In 2007, the Company announced that it would be developing its own TETRA (OEM
white label) handset utilising its own core technology solution. This marked an
evolution of the Company's traditional license-revenue based business model
within the framework of remaining an enabler of a global network of local
suppliers of TETRA products under their own local brands. The initiative
leverages the existing core technology solution to generate increased revenues
from wider market segments.
Simon Tucker, Group Managing Director said, "Of course we already had the core
technology, however our team have done an excellent job in taking this project
from an exciting idea last year into the complete, high quality, and now
approved, product that it is today. Although we were confident that the handset
would obtain the relevant approvals, it's always a big milestone when the first
is secured.'
George Kyprios, SRT PMR Technology Ltd, Managing Director said, "Our market
research showed that users wanted differentiation and greater choice, and a
segment of the market had specific requirements not met by other products. We
believe our handset meets these requirements and, when combined with our
business model, will steadily gain market share.'
