TELECOMS CONTRACT WINS
Scottish and Southern Energy plc has announced the conclusion of a number of
major contract wins for its Telecoms business which will ensure it achieves
turnover in excess of £30M in the current financial year.
These include Learning Network South East (LeNSE), a consortium of 10 major
universities and colleges which have come together to develop a state-of-the-
art fibre optic communications network, allowing the fast and free flow of
electronic data between these seats of learning.
Scottish and Southern Energy has uniquely been able to adapt the development
of their £45M investment programme to meet the needs of LeNSE and a further
£2M in dedicated links, optical and electronic equipment. The high performance
data network will create the largest virtual university in the UK by linking
the thousands of students at the 10 institutions involved, opening up channels
of communication between them and positioning them at the forefront of new
technology.
Amongst other contract wins Scottish and Southern Energy is also to provide
the Isle of Wight Cable and Telephone Company with fibre optic capacity
through its electricity network and the submarine cable linking the island to
the UK mainland.
