SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC
ACHIEVEMENT OF EIGHT MILLION CUSTOMERS MILESTONE
Scottish and Southern Energy plc ('SSE') has achieved eight million energy
supply-related customers for the first time. This comprises: 5.03 million
electricity customers; 2.87 million gas customers; and 105,000 telecoms
customers.
It represents a net increase of 3.5 million (78%) since the start of 2002 and of
150,000 since the start of this financial year on 1 April 2007. SSE achieved
seven million customers in July 2006 and so has gained one million additional
customers in less than a year.
SSE is the third largest supplier of electricity and gas in the UK and supplies
electricity and gas under Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro Electric, SWALEC and
Atlantic brands.
Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of SSE, said:
'I have no doubt that this sustained growth is the direct result of our policy
of responsible pricing, allied to best-in-sector customer service. Going
forward, we are committed to offering customers a combination of price, service
and products which will enable us to achieve further growth during the rest of
this financial year and beyond.'
