     Purchase of Shares under Deferred Bonus Scheme

The  Company  announces  the purchase  of  2305  ordinary
shares of 50p each in the Company at a price of £5.71 per
share  on  22 October 1999 by Bedell and Cristin Trustees
Ltd  as  trustee  of  the Scottish  and  Southern  Energy
Deferred Bonus Plan (the Trust).

For  Companies  Act purposes the Executive Directors  are
technically regarded as having an interest in shares held
by the Trust.
