SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC
EXTENSION TO BARKING POWER
Ministers have given consent to Barking Power Ltd, in which Scottish and
Southern Energy plc ('SSE') has a 30.4% stake, to construct an extension of its
existing Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power station at Dagenham. The extension
will allow for the development of a further 470MW of capacity, in addition to
the existing 1,000MW. This would effectively add over 140MW to the portfolio of
electricity generation assets owned by SSE.
The consent includes requirements that carbon capture plant can be
'retro-fitted' to the extension should that be necessary in the future and that
the necessary plant and pipeworks are installed to ensure that the station can
supply heat in the future, if the opportunity arises.
The shareholders of Barking Power Ltd will decide in 2008 when and how to
proceed with the extension.
