GORDONBUSH FIRST POWER GENERATION
Electricity has been generated for the first time at SSE's 70MW Gordonbush wind farm near Brora, Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands.
Work has been progressing well since construction started in autumn last year and turbine deliveries are well under way, with 15 of the 35 turbines fully erected at site. The first array has now been energised and 2 turbines are exporting power to the national grid.
Gordonbush remains on target to be commissioned around the end of this financial year. It is expected to produce around180GWh in a typical year and its construction cost is expected to be just over £100m.
Jim Smith, SSE's Managing Director Renewables said: "We are delighted to have reached this major milestone at Gordonbush wind farm. As the UK's leading generator of electricity from renewable sources, SSE is committed to helping increase the amount of renewable electricity generation in the UK, and the export of electricity at Gordonbush is a step towards achieving this."
