LAUNCH OF IPLAN

SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy plc) has started the nationwide launch of iplan, a new energy product which delivers smart energy features to customers, allowing them to track their energy usage and provide the real time and historic information they need to change the way they use energy.

The iplan features a smart energy kit with three elements:

·     The in-home display, including energy tools like: a unique TargetTrack facility which allows users to set their own energy target and to monitor their actual use against this; MaxAlert, which tells people when they're using more energy than normal; GridWatch, which warns when national demand is high; and BaseCheck, showing people's lowest usage level.

·     iplan online account tools, including: Spend, which estimates consumption costs; LikeforLike, which compares energy use across different periods; and LikeMe, which provides comparisons with similar households.

·     Personalised energy tips, which are driven from the user's own household energy profile based on their on-line survey and accumulating data.

SSE is the second largest supplier in Great Britain's energy supply market, and supplies energy as Southern Electric, SWALEC , Scottish Hydro Electric and Atlantic.  The iplan costs the same as SSE's standard energy tariffs.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, Energy Supply Director of SSE, said:

"The development of new products is central to success in Britain's competitive energy supply market.  The iplan will transform the amount of information that customers have about their energy consumption, by giving them a user-friendly presentation of energy data at their individual level.  By seeing what energy they're using in real time, people will have the means to manage their energy consumption more effectively, helping to lower their energy costs.  It allows people to start on a smart energy journey well before the installation of smart meters."
