NOTIFICATION OF CLOSE PERIOD

Scottish and Southern Energy plc ('SSE') will tomorrow enter its close period, prior to the publication on 12 November 2008 of its interim results for the six months to 30 September 2008.

SSE's emphasis is on adjusted profit before tax on a full-year basis and, in line with its Interim Management Statement on 24 July 2008, it still expects to be able to deliver a modest increase in adjusted profit before tax in the year to 31 March 2009.

Interim results are more likely to fluctuate with unusual variations or exceptional circumstances, and in 2008/09 SSE expects that they will account for just under one quarter of its full-year adjusted profit before tax.
