SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC

NOTIFICATION OF CLOSE PERIOD

Scottish and Southern Energy plc ('SSE') enters its close period on 1 April 2009, in advance of its preliminary results for the year to 31 March 2009, which will be published on 21 May 2009. Its expectations, for a modest increase in adjusted profit before tax, and a full-year dividend of at least 66.0 pence per share, remain unchanged.

As in previous years, SSE's preliminary results statement will include an initial assessment of the outlook for the new financial year and beyond.

SSE is today making a presentation on its renewable energy plans to investors visiting Perth as part of a wider visit to Scotland organised by utility analysts. The presentation is based on information already publicly disclosed by SSE and it can be viewed on its website.
