INTERIM DIVIDEND FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 MARCH 2011

SCRIP ALTERNATIVE

SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy plc) announces that a total of 30,482 shareholders have elected to receive the interim dividend of 22.4 pence per ordinary share in respect of 275,550,234 ordinary shares in the form of Scrip dividend.

This will result in the issue of 5,264,873 new ordinary shares, fully paid, an increase of 0.57% on the issued share capital on dividend record date of 28 January 2011.  The relevant Scrip Reference Share Price was 1,172 pence per ordinary share.
