SJPC was notified by Halifax Group plc ('Halifax') on 31 May 2001 of changes
in the names of the registered holders which comprise the notifiable interests
of Halifax in 253,463,574 ordinary shares of 15p of SJPC (representing 59.4%
of the issued share capital) whereby 252,058,574 ordinary shares in SJPC were
transferred from Halifax to HCM Holdings Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Halifax.
