St. James's Place Capital plc ('SJPC') is pleased to announce the appointment
of Mr Michael Sorkin as a non-executive Director of SJPC.  The appointment
will take effect from 1 January 2002.


Mr Sorkin joined Hambros Bank in 1968 and was Chairman of its Management
Committee between 1995 and 1998.  Since 1998 he has been a Managing Director
of SG Hambros, from which he will be retiring on 30 November.  He was a
director of Hambros PLC until 1998 and is currently a non-executive director
of JZ Equity Partners PLC.


There are no circumstances to be disclosed in accordance with Listing Rule
6.F.2 (b)-(g) for Mr Sorkin.
