Standard Chartered Appoints Two Non-Executive Directors
The Board of Directors of Standard Chartered is pleased to announce that Ms Ruth
Markland and Mr Paul Skinner have been appointed non-executive directors of
Standard Chartered PLC.
Ms Markland, 50, recently retired from the international law firm, Freshfields
Bruckhaus Deringer where she was a Partner from 1983 and a Managing Partner for
the Freshfields Asia practice based in Hong Kong since 1996.
Mr Skinner, 58, is Chairman of Rio Tinto Plc the global mining company. He
recently retired as a Group Managing Director of Royal Dutch/Shell Group of
companies, for whom he had worked since 1966.

of talent to offer. Ruth has great expertise in Asia - where she has worked for
much of the past 22 years - and a deep understanding of the regulatory
environment. Paul's current role is as Chairman of Rio Tinto, one of the most
successful global mining companies. In his former position at Royal Dutch Shell
he was CEO of the Group's global Oil Products business, which operates in 140
countries under its well known and admired brand. These appointments will
greatly contribute to the diversity and knowledge of our Board,' said Bryan
Sanderson, Chairman of Standard Chartered PLC.
Ms Markland and Mr Skinner commenced their non-executive directorships at
Standard Chartered on 3 November 2003.
