Standard Chartered PLC Non-Executive Director changes

The Board of Directors (the "Board") of Standard Chartered PLC (the "Company") today announces the appointment of two new independent Non-Executive Directors and a Senior Independent Director.

This is part of the second phase of the Board's multi-year succession planning exercise to enhance the experience, depth and diversity of the Board, as outlined in the 2011 and 2012 Annual Report and Accounts.

Board changes

Dr Kurt Michael Campbell (aged 55) is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.  Dr Campbell has a wealth of experience of the US political environment and significant experience of some of our key markets, notably across Asia.  He is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Asia Group LLC, a strategic advisory and investment group specialising in the Asia Pacific region.  From 2009 to 2013, Dr Campbell served as the US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and he was awarded the US Secretary of State's Distinguished Service Award in 2013, the highest diplomatic honour.

Mrs Christine Mary Hodgson (aged 48) is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 September 2013.  Mrs Hodgson brings strong business leadership, accounting, finance and technology experience to the Board.  She is currently the Chair of Capgemini UK plc, part of one of the world's largest IT and professional services companies.  Mrs Hodgson joined Capgemini in 1997 and has held a variety of roles including CFO for Capgemini UK plc and CEO of Technology Services North West Europe.  She is also a Non-Executive Director of Ladbrokes plc.

Ms Ruth Markland is appointed as Senior Independent Director from 1 July 2013.  Ms Markland has been an independent Non-Executive Director of the Company since 2003 and has chaired the Remuneration Committee since 2006.  She replaces Mr Rudy Markham who, as stated in the 2012 Annual Report and Accounts, will be stepping down from the Board by the 2014 Annual General Meeting.

Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Board, said: "I am delighted to welcome Christine and Kurt to the Board.  They bring significant business leadership, political, financial and accounting experience to the Board and complement our existing group of Directors."

"On behalf of the Board, I would also like to thank Ruth and Rudy for their continued contribution to the Company.  Their continuity of service and commitment provides an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Group which has enormous value."

The Company confirms that there is no other information to be disclosed under the requirements of Listing Rule 9.6.13R in relation to these appointments.  The appointments have received the necessary regulatory approval.
