Byron Grote to join Standard Chartered PLC Board
The Board of Directors (the "Board") of Standard Chartered PLC (the "Company") today announces the appointment of Byron Elmer Grote as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 July 2014.
Byron (aged 66) is an experienced non-executive director who has strong finance, commercial and risk management credentials. He also has substantial international experience, across Asia Pacific and Africa. Byron worked for over 25 years at BP plc across a variety of commercial, operational and executive roles, including nine years as Chief Financial Officer. He stepped down from the Board of BP plc in April 2013. Byron is a Non-Executive Director of Unilever plc/Unilever NV, Anglo American plc and a member of the Supervisory Board of Akzo Nobel NV.
Byron's appointment is part of the Board's ongoing multi-year succession planning exercise designed to enhance the experience, depth and diversity of the Board and its Committees. As previously announced, two of our long standing independent Non-Executive Directors, Rudy Markham and Jamie Dundas, stepped down from the Board in May 2014 and Oliver Stocken will step down by the end of the year.
Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Board, said: "Byron brings significant financial and risk management experience to the Board, having worked in a range of senior roles in a heavily regulated industry. Byron's appointment will ensure that the Board's composition continues to evolve and that we have the right balance and diversity of skills and experience to support the future development of our business. I am delighted to welcome Byron to Standard Chartered."
