Standard Chartered PLC announces that, following the appointment of Mervyn
Davies as Group Chief Executive, Peter Wong will become a Director of Standard
Chartered Bank, the main operating subsidiary of the Group. He will assume
governance responsibility for Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Peter will also
retain responsibility for Consumer Banking in Hong Kong.
Mervyn Davies said: 'Peter Wong is an outstanding banker and a respected
member of the Hong Kong business community. Having worked closely with him in
Hong Kong for four years, I know how fortunate we are to have such a capable
person in what are key markets for Standard Chartered.'
Mervyn Davies will retain his close ties with Hong Kong and has agreed to
remain a member of Hong Kong's Exchange Fund Advisory Committee.

Peter Wong joined Standard Chartered in April 1997 as Head of Consumer Banking
for Hong Kong and China. In 2000, he also was appointed as Chief Executive
and General Manager for Hong Kong - Standard Chartered's largest market. He
is also a member of the Group's Executive Committee.
He was Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Banks in 2001 during
de-regulation of the banking sector in Hong Kong.
Mr Wong is a graduate of Indiana University in the United States and holds two
master degrees, one in computer science and another in business administration
specialising in marketing and finance.
