                           Directors' Shareholdings


The Company announces the purchase of shares in the Company made on 20 July
2001 by two of its directors. 10,000 shares were purchased jointly by HB
Shulman and GA Shapiro at a price of 290 pence per share.

Following this transaction, these directors' respective beneficial holdings in
the issued share capital of Solitaire are as follows:
