Appointment of New Director

SMG PLC 07 November 2005 Distinguished Programme-Maker and Journalist to Join SMG Board SMG plc ('SMG') announces today (7 November) that Tim Gardam, the highly regarded television and radio executive, is to join the company's Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director. Currently Principal of St Anne's College, Oxford, Tim is currently heading the university working party to establish an Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford. He was Director of Television and of Programmes at Channel 4 from 1998 to 2003 and Controller of News and Documentaries at Channel Five from 1996 to 1998. He was the BBC's Head of Current Affairs for television and radio after serving as editor of both Panorama and Newsnight and founding the history series, Timewatch, during his time at the BBC between 1977 and 1996. He will join the SMG Board on 2 December and will become a member of the Remuneration Committee.
