Fiona Harrison Appointed as Non-Executive Director

SMG ANNOUNCES NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Scottish Media Group plc ('SMG') announces today (4 February 2000) that Fiona
Harrison has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the company.

Fiona Harrison, 49, has held a number of senior positions in the retail
industry, most recently with Coats Viyella Plc as a Director and Chief
Executive of its Fashion Retail Division until 1998.  She currently holds
Non-Executive Directorships with Boots Company Plc and Thorntons Plc and
within the last five years was a director of Kenwood Appliances Plc. 

Don Cruickshank, Chairman of SMG said:

'We are fortunate to have Fiona Harrison joining the Board of SMG.  Her
experience in the national and international retail industry, working with
well known brands, brings valuable experience to SMG as we build our presence
in UK media.'

Fiona Harrison said:

1977 - 1991       Bristol-Meyers Squibb
                  Joined the company as Product Planning Manager for its 
                  Clairol Appliances Division, progressing through various 
                  marketing roles before being appointed International 
                  Marketing Director in 1982.  International Managing Director
                  from 1986 and Vice President Clairol Inc from 1989.

1991 - 1998       Coats Viyella Plc
                  As Chairman and Chief Executive of Fashion Retail Division, 
                  tripled profits within her division.  Responsibility for 
                  Jaeger, Viyella, Van Heusen and Berghaus brands.
