Virgin Radio Secures Digital Carriage for London

Scottish Media Group PLC 7 April 2000 Virgin Radio Secures Digital Carriage for London Service Scottish Media Group plc ('SMG') announces today (Friday, 7 April) that the decision of the Radio Authority to award the second London digital radio multiplex licence to Switchdigital will guarantee carriage for Virgin Radio's new bespoke digital radio service to London listeners. In addition, SMG confirms that its involvement in Switchdigital will result in the automatic rollover of Virgin Radio's London FM licence for a further eight years from 2003. Through its involvement in the national commercial digital radio multiplex, Digital One, Virgin Radio's national AM licence had previously been guaranteed automatic renewal. Virgin Radio, which was acquired by SMG in March as part of Ginger Media Group, has been part of the Switchdigital consortium since its inception and is a 10% shareholder. Virgin Radio will provide a 'Classic Soul' programme service on the London digital multiplex, expected to be on air in June 2000.
