SuperGroup acquires Scandinavian distributor

SuperGroup today announces that it has purchased the SMAC Group, which consists of SMAC A/S, SMAC Retail A/S and SMAC Norge A/S, its successful and long term Scandinavian distributor. This purchase returns to SuperGroup the rights to trade the Superdry brand in Denmark, Norway and Finland, and welcomes a strong team from SMAC, led by Stine Elmkvist and Lars Thygesen, into the SuperGroup family.

The acquisition of the distribution rights will assist the Group in meeting its ambitious plans for the region, by freeing it to invest its own capital in the store roll-out, improve margins on the wholesale operation and retain local operational and management expertise. Based in Aarhus, Denmark, SMAC has a footprint of 4 owned Retail stores, 8 Franchise stores and a thriving wholesale business.

The business was purchased for an undisclosed sum, and paid for in cash from internal resources.

Julian Dunkerton, CEO of SuperGroup, said:

"The acquisition of our Scandinavian partner follows the purchase of the Spanish and German distributors last year. Our Pan-European strategy is progressing well and we will provide an update on developments at the time of our prelims on July 10. We remain fully focussed on maximising the global opportunity for the SuperDry brand."

Notes to the editors

SuperGroup is the owner of the Superdry brand and operates in the branded fashion clothing sector. Superdry targets the young fashion market with affordable, premium quality clothing and accessories for both men and women in the 15 to 25 age bracket, although the brand has become increasingly appealing to a much broader group as it develops its breadth of product ranges.

As at the 26 April 2014, the business operated from 516 stores. These consisted of 96 owned stores and 64 concessions in the UK and 43 owned stores, 124 franchised and 33 concessions in Europe. The remainder of the estate is made up franchised and licensed stores in the Rest of World. The Group's strategy is to further internationalise the business, with the focus of its future rollout of owned and franchised stores.

The Group also has a successful ecommerce business. In addition to superdry.com the Group operates 17 country specific Superdry websites.

The Group will be reporting its Final results for the year ended 26 April 2014 on 10 July 2014.
