Launch of Sutton Harbour Destination Initiative
Sutton Harbour Holdings plc, the AIM listed marine and waterfront regeneration specialist, is pleased to announce the launch of its Sutton Harbour Destination Initiative, being the next phase in transforming Sutton Harbour in Plymouth into one of the UK's most attractive waterfront locations.
The company plans to develop a further 350,000 sq ft of mixed-use projects, spanning 12 sites around the Harbour, with an overall development value of around £75 million.
An unbroken trail around the entire Harbour will be established by building a new boardwalk to join together existing points of interest, such as the National Marine Acquarium, and giving complete access around the marina.
The initiative will involve building new restaurants, cafés, shops, offices and apartments in the underused sites around the Harbour, creating a national destination venue in the south equivalent to the likes of Albert Dock in Liverpool and St Katharine Docks in the City of London.
The Company will be working in partnership with the local council and other parties including business owners and residents to build on 20 years of award-winning development in the Harbour, which has already created a 490-berth marina, quality apartments, visitor attractions, fish market, offices and leisure and retail space.
An outline planning application for this scheme will be submitted to Plymouth City Council in the next few weeks, with interest already being shown from potential occupiers.
Chief Executive Jason Schofield said: "We are delighted to be launching this new project which marks the next exciting chapter in the development of Sutton Harbour. The proposed development is in line with our strategy and expertise of building value in our assets through our focus on waterside regeneration in the area.
"It will position Sutton Harbour as a day out destination with the National Marine Aquarium and Barbican Leisure Park to the east, the historic Barbican district to the south and the city centre immediately to the north."
