Re Contract
Symphony Plastic Technologies PLC
4 July 2002
For Immediate Release 4 July 2002
Symphony Plastic Technologies Plc
Contract Award and Formation of Symphony Environmental Caribbean Incorporated
Symphony Environmental Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Symphony Plastic
Technologies Plc ('Symphony'), today announces the formation of Symphony
Environmental Caribbean Incorporated ('SECI'). SECI has been registered in St
Lucia and is jointly owned by Symphony Environmental Ltd and Loramark Marketing
Inc., a company that markets SPI-Tek totally degradable products in Barbados.
SECI has issued a private placement document through PricewaterhouseCoopers for
the sale of approximately 16% of the Company through the issuing of 2 million
ordinary shares at B$1* per share. The funds raised from the private placement
will be used for the marketing and development of a new infrastructure of
distributors. SECI is targeting the wider Caribbean market and is planning rapid
expansion of sales of SPI-Tek degradable products in the Caribbean region.
SECI is pleased to announce its first major contract with Super Centre Ltd.
('Super Centre'), a company owned by the BS&T Group Plc (Barbados Shipping and
Trading Plc), whose shares are listed on the Barbados Stock Exchange.
Super Centre has agreed to change all their produce bags, check out bags and
carrier bags to SPI-Tek Totally Degradable Plastic Bags, the first large
supermarket chain in the Caribbean to take such action. Super Centre has
recognised the importance of protecting the environment from plastic pollution
caused mainly by the littering of carrier bags and other forms of primary
packaging.
More than 14.5 million bags will be removed from the environment in Barbados as
a result of converting to SPI-Tek Totally Degradable products.
The revolutionary SPI-Tek degradable plastic technology has many advantages;
among them is its resilience, controllable time period for breakdown and absence
of harmful bi-products after degradation - the plastic is eventually reduced to
only carbon dioxide and water, thus eliminating litter.
This development comes as a result of a successful development project carried
out by Loramark Marketing Inc.
Michael Laurier, Chief Executive of Symphony said:
'The Super Centre contract is expected to be the first of many environmental
developments in the Caribbean and we are pleased to have introduced our range of
environmentally responsible SPI-TekTM products to the most respected and largest
supermarket business in Barbados. The formation of SECI consolidates our leading
position in this important market and we look forward to the successful
completion of the local funding programme.'
