Local Authority Contract Win
Symphony Plastic Technologies Plc ('Symphony' or 'the Group'), through its
wholly owned subsidiary, Symphony Plastics Ltd, has been awarded a four year
contract to supply refuse sacks to Greater Manchester Waste (Stockport
Collections) Limited ('GMW (SC)'), a wholly owned subsidiary of Greater
Manchester Waste Limited (GMW) the UK's largest local authority waste disposal
company. The contract, valued in excess of £500,000, is for the supply of
non-degradable sacks for the remainder of GMW (SC)'s contract with Stockport
Metropolitan Borough Council from 1st November through to 30th March 2006, with
options to extend the contract through to the end of March 2007 and 2008.
GMW has a joint venture company with Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester
Waste (Manchester Collections) Limited, which has the contract for refuse
collection for the City of Manchester. It also has a number of contracts for
the kerbside collection of paper with local authorities around the Greater
Manchester area, including Oldham, Trafford and Bury. It aspires to have
additional refuse collection contracts in the future. Symphony will be given the
opportunity to tender for the supply contracts of polythene sacks for all of
GMW's existing and future waste disposal programmes.

GMW is a company owned and controlled by the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal
Authority, handling over 1.4 million tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) each
year.
Committed to providing integrated waste management solutions, GMW operates four
materials recovery facilities which process over 45% of the MSW generated
throughout the region. These plants are operating alongside the newly
refurbished Bolton Thermal Recovery Facility, which produces energy from waste
by recovering heat from the combustion process. 10 MW of electricity is
generated for the national grid, equivalent to the energy needed to heat 7,000
homes.
Other facilities include 25 Household Waste Recycling Centres, managed by GMW,
which receive recyclable materials including glass, cans, paper and green waste.
